The iPhone App needs no introduction. Suffice to say simply that its a huge platform in terms of reach, and that your clients are probably asking for it!
This workshops is a hands-on introduction to iPhone App development, including Objective C, Cocoa, XCode and the iPhone SDK. You'll go from a blank screen to a basic working app.
WHAT YOU'LL COVER
- Introduction to Objective-C syntax and paradigms (and comparisons with other languages)
- Tour of Cocoa frameworks
- Interface builder and hooking basic UI components to your code (buttons, text boxes)
- Memory management
- UI views and view controllers including buttons, sliders, tabs and things, list views and mapkit
- Other interesting phone features including Accelerometer, GPS, Camera and Multitouch
- And finally some time for general discussion of iPhone voodoo and the App Store.
IDEAL FOR...
This workshop is designed for developers interested in designing, creating, and deploying iPhone applications. It is most valuable to developers with some experience of other development environments, but who are new to iPhone.
REQUIREMENTS
Participants on the iPhone sections of the course will REQUIRE an Intel Mac running Snow Leopard. You SHOULD in advance of the course:
- download the latest version of the iPhone SDK
Register at http://developer.apple.com/iphone/ and download and install the appropriate SDK for your OS.
It's a huge (≈3.5 gig) download - and includes XCode. Remember that even if you've already got XCode installed you still need to get the whole package! I will bring copies on DVD to the course but it will save a lot of time if you have already done this.

You need to do this in order to deploy your developed applications onto a phone. Otherwise you'll be limited to using the simulator. It also gives you an account with iTunes Connect so you can upload your finished apps to the store.

DO THIS NOW - it can take a few days for them to process your request. For company memberships they will probably want a copy of your incorporation certificate sending by fax (yes, by fax!!)

Once you're signed up for the developer program you'll get access to the "Provisioning Assistant" which guides you through the process. This is a lot less fiddly a process than it used to be!
